Tag: The Disney Tag

Tag, you're it!

I am very proud to admit that I am a straight-up Disney kid.  I freakin' love Disney movies & TV shows.  So when I saw this tag I knew I had to do it.

My favorite Disney movie of all time is in fact The Nightmare Before Christmas.  My favorite TV show characters are Chip & Dale, especially when they're pitted against Donald Duck.  I can't decide if I like Mary Poppins or Bedknobs and Broomsticks better.

Since it would be a really boring post if I answered "All of them" to every topic, I had to draw some lines somewhere.  I have narrowed my pool of answers to anything from a Disney Animated Movie.  No Stop Animation or Live Action, and no TV shows, animated or otherwise.  Even with this massive restriction I had trouble picking just 1 for each category!!  Be prepared for some nostalgia.

1. Favorite Villain
Maleficent.  She's such a badass!
Seriously, if I were able to turn myself into an evil overlord I would basically be her.

2. Favorite Hero
C'mon, Robin Hood of course!

3. Favorite Heroine
Mulan.  She breaks all the rules to spare her father and fight for her country.
If that isn't a heroine I don't know what is.

4. Favorite Prince
Philip. Anyone who would go up against a dragon that spits magic fire
deserves some damn respect.

5. Favorite Princess
Merida, by far.  I had goosebumps when I saw this scene for the first time in the theater.

6. Favorite Animal
The Cheshire Cat.

7. Favorite Animal Sidekick
Animal Sidekicks are my favorite part of most Disney movies.  I seriously can't pick just one, so I narrowed it down to animal sidekicks to human characters only.  Even then I still couldn't get it down to one!

Pascal's humor is so dry, and his little squeeky noises are adorable.  Plus, Ultimate Wet Willy.

Archimedes is like Grumpy Cat in bird form.

8. Favorite Human Sidekick
I chose from animal sidekicks to other animals as well as human sidekicks to other humans.  And again I can't pick just one!

Rhino is the ultimate geek.  I named my Kia Soul after him.

9. Favorite Character
Besides any previously mentioned characters, here's some of my favorites.
1st column: Figaro (Pinnochio); Tinkerbell (Peter Pan); Alan-a-Dale (Robin Hood)
2nd column: Doug, Kevin, & Russel (UP); Buzzie, Flaps, Ziggy, & Dizzy (The Jungle Book)
3rd column: Evinrude (The Rescuers); Cri-kee (Mulan); Rufus (The Rescuers)

10. Favorite Song
Everybody Wants to be a Cat!

BTW, have you seen Jackie Chan sing I'll Make a Man out of You in Chinese?  Its full of win.

11. Favorite Scene
Its a tie between the squirrel scene from Sword In The Stone:

...and Carl & Ellie's love story from UP:

12. Favorite Princess Movie
Sleeping Beauty is a beautiful movie.  Those scenery and backgrounds are breathtaking and I love the angular style and heavy outlines of the characters.  It doesn't look like any other Disney Movie out there.  Plus the story is awesome, the love song is timeless,  Maleficent, and
"Pink!" "Blue!"

13. Favorite Non-Princess Movie
Fantasia.  Even after all these years there is still absolutely nothing else is quite like it.  It was  a groundbreaking and innovative work of art and music for its time and still remains unique and original to this day.  Its the  very definition of a Timeless Classic.

14. Favorite Outfit
I've always loved the dress Arial is wearing when she steps out of the ocean.  And her sexy attitude while wearing old canvas and rope is awesome.

15. Favorite Kiss
While Wall-E is a close second, Beauty and the Beast beats it on substance.  The recognition in her eyes that yes, this is indeed the guy she fell in love with, is just magical.  It proves love takes on all shapes and sizes.  Plus their kiss makes magical fireworks!
And no, I'm not advocating bestiality or Stockholm Syndrome.

16. Favorite Hair
Like every little girl I wanted long, gorgeous, flowing hair like Ariel's.
So I grew it out to a little over 3 feet long.
It would swirl around me in the pool like Ariel's did in the movie and I absolutely loved it.
Below is a photo of me aged 19, slouching on a duck-themed futon,
wearing a Happy Bunny "Cute but Psycho" t-shirt and tie-died pants.
My hair, circa 2003
Did I mention I was 19? *facepalm* Anyway, I've since chopped the majority of it off
because I didn't want to deal with it getting stuck in things
or the headaches and neck aches anymore.

17. Favorite Dance
I have 3. Kind of.

Beauty and the Beast, with those gorgeous sweeping camera motions throughout the hall.

Sleeping Beauty's dance scenes by the lake are just enchanting.

Snow White ('37)/Jungle Book ('67)/AristoCats ('70)/Robin Hood ('73)
Disney animators recycled some of the dance moves and I can't say I blame them.  Remember, these were all hand-drawn so even if the movements were recycled, the animation had to be redrawn- still by hand- to fit the movie.

18. Favorite Opening Sequence
Again, I can't choose a favorite.

The Lion King

Oliver And Company

19. Favorite Sequel
Toy Story.  They did a great job of connecting each of the movies together and making them each important to the overarching story.  I think I like 3 best- it hit all the feels.

20. Disney or Disney+Pixar?
Talk about a tough question! I had to bust out some math to answer this.

Of the 52 Disney Animated Films released through 2012, I have not seen 7 of them:
Make Mine Music
Melody Time
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Home on the Range
Winnie the Pooh
Wreck it Ralph (I know I know, I wanna see it!)

Of the remaining 45, I have completely loved all but 7 of them
Snow White
Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad
Dinosaur
Chicken Little
Meet the Robinsons

This gives Disney an Awesomeness Rating of 84%.

I have seen all but 1 of the 13 Disney+Pixar Films that have been released through 2012 (I haven't seen Cars 2).  Of the remaining 12, I have completely loved all but 2 of them: A Bug's Life and Cars.

This gives Disney+Pixar an Awesomeness Rating of 83%.

So Disney alone has a better score by a mere 1%, but we all know they're both fabulous.

And that's the tag!  I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I have putting it together.  If you have any comments please add them below, and please feel free to do the tag yourself; I'd love to chat Disney with you!
